HOLY CALLING

“By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country dwelling in tabernacles with Issac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

Hebrews 11:9-10 (KJV)

We tend to forget the basic fact that a major aspect regarding the fundamental attribute or character trait of God is that He is unequivocally and awesomely "holy;" and too that the basis for any relationship with Him must be established on this foundation. There have been, and are presently absolutely no exceptions or exclusions to this timeless bible truth.

From the very beginning of the recording of revelation truth, Scripture has fully conveyed to us that the "holiness" of God must be acknowledged and adhered to prior to establishing any relationship with Him. The emblem and activity surrounding the Ark of the Covenant clearly conveys this point. In Leviticus 19:2 the Lord proclaimed to the redeemed congregation: "Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.”

The record of Scripture clearly documents that across the elapsed centuries of time, we have repeatedly lost sight of this important truth regarding our relationship with the Lord. And, before we can be reconciled back to Him, the matter of holiness (or the lack thereof) has to be addressed.

We may dismiss this knowledge as useless theological ramblings that are practically irrelevant, but nevertheless, from the perspective of Heaven, our standing before God in terms of our judicial spiritual position and daily life practice is extremely crucial. Hence, we are admonished in 2 Corinthians 7:1, "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."
